My Hobby

One hobby of mine is rock climbing. I have been a competitive climber for the past six years, although I first started climbing when I was four years old. For me, climbing is a lot more then just a hobby. This sport has allowed me to travel across the country, as well as the world. Last year I had two trips to Montreal for Nationals, and one trip to Arco, Italy, for the Youth World Championships. Through my sport, I have met and made friends with people from Quebec City, Toronto, Calgary, Seattle, Germany, Italy, and New Zealand. Two years ago, I traveled to Moscow, Russia for my first Youth World Championships. Moscow was an incredible city, but one that I would never have visited if not for climbing. There are three disciplines in competition climbing, which gives you the option to specialize in one, or train for all three. Climbing is an extremely diverse sport, and not just for competition climbing. Outdoors provides a whole other variety of options: sport, trad climbing, multi-pitch, and bouldering are few of the different kinds of outdoor climbing. Outdoor climbing for me tends to be much more relaxing than competition climbing, as outdoor climbing allows me to work hard climbs at my own pace.  Sometimes, I end up working on one climb for months before completing it.  Climbing has been a huge part of my for the past 6 years, and I very grateful for all the opportunities that it has presented for me.
